BBC Blast Fashion Festival

THANKS FOR THE FREE STUFF!

Yesterday I went to this event and went to four workshops/lectures:
  • Fashion Career Clinic
  • A Conversation with Erin O'Connor and Hannah Marshall
  • Creative Styling
  • Fashion Blogging with Aindrea Emelife

The career clinic was poor, we had to leave early simply because our questions simply were not getting answered by the proffessional from the artsthread.com team. Fashion Journalism wasn't getting any input and all the focus was on design.

TOP TIP: be your own designer.

A Conversation with Erin O'Connor and Hannah Marshall was fantastic, Erin and Hannah were joined by a Fashion Illustrator whose name escapes me but was also very interesting. Erin's 'Model sanctuary' was hugely commended across the British Fashion Industry as a safe haven for models to escape to during the chaos that is London Fashion Week. Hannah Marshall's striking outfit, eyebrows and hairstyle was a big contrast with her down to earth giggly personality. She was hugely inspirational, from finishing her degree three years ago she's now showing at fashion week, her clothes appearing on my idols (Marina and the Diamonds, Florence and the Machine) AND she's best friends with the amazing, Erin O'Connor. Jealousy is a wicked, wicked thing.

Creative Styling was fun, Johannes' (the stylist leading the workshop) accent was fascinating, I found myself staring at him in awe without realising until he would give me a 'WTF is that freek looking at?' glance and the stare would be broken. The four volunteers chosen to style the models made them look like a ghetto yeti, I wasn't too impressed.

Fashion Blogging with Aindrea Emelife was really good. I felt I got a lot out of it and really was inspired to make this blog. She seemed really friendly and down to earth, I just envy her for achieving so much and being exactly my age. Oh well, with a bit of luck I'll be heading to London Fashion Week next year as 'press' like Aindrea managed to.
